Since the industrial revolution, we are living in a greatest culture shift, maybe computers and internets are still relatively new things but in their short lifespans, they were able to turn our world upside down.
Technology has become an essential part of our daily activities, we use it manage our bank accounts , to communicate with friends , to make purchases, to do business, to educate ourselves. The new technology era has helped us to build a very convenient world in where everything is at our fingertips, but, obviously the same technology which helps us to make our life easier had exposed us to cyberattacks.
In the old days , security meant putting your money in a bank, protecting your home by a lock, storing your important document is a safe deposit box or just a secure place at home , and maybe install an alarm system, while in our new convenient world everything has changed , we can’t rely anymore on these conventional methods to protect ourselves and our assets.
The new convenient world or let’s call it “the new digital world” put the data our fingertips but also at the fingertips of someone else, who could be a criminal , a hacker, or an identify thief.
Many people , still don’t consider themselves targets because they think that only politicians, celebrities’, or the 500 CEOs are the targets, while in fact, everyone of us is a target and for different reasons, could be for money , or for identity theft which be used to do online purchases, to get medical treatment using our health insurance, or to open new utility accounts.
Maybe criminals will not be able to hack your identity , but if they manage to get into your social media accounts , they can exploit your reputation. Cybersecurity is very essential because if you fall a victims of any cyberattack, the damage will go beyond you own money and reputation, it will affect your entire network, family and friends.
Our data is our responsibility and it is up to us to protect it.
